My work is an expression of being in the landscape—whether it’s kunanyi emerging from the early morning fog, the Channel tides crashing against the shoreline or the blue glow of gum trees blanketing the hills, each painting works to visualise my experience of immersion in the world.
Tasmania’s undulating landscape is a never-ceasing source of reference, and after spending several years abroad, I feel constantly driven to paint after its rugged beauty. Now I call Tasmania home and I hope to be painting its likeness for many years to come.
The paintings are process-driven: initial swathes of soaking give way to painterly mark making. Scale is an important element in my work, with paintings shifting from approximately 100cm square to large-format canvases up to 200cm square.
